Happy Masters Week!
Given the expected conditions in Round 1 today, the players short games will be heavily tested. Accomplishing a Green in Regulation (GIR) becomes even more challenging with higher winds. As some of the players get frustrated with the wind, they will have to reset mentally to prepare for some awkward wedge shots and be tested with clutch putts from inside 10 ft.
As a player yourself, how could you test your game to empathize with the challenge they are facing today?
Adapt to the Wind: Whether the wind is in your face, a crossbreeze, or swirling, test yourself to get close to your target while adjusting to the wind. You may have to use more club, less club, or flight your ball with different feels and speeds.
Putts from 10ft: After a difficult wedge shot around the green, you may be tested with a 10 footer for par. Find some different angles from 10ft to test your nerves.
Creative Wedge Shots: Put yourself in different awkward lies around your local practice green to test your ability to get Up & Down. Scoring from inside 100 yards accounts for about 60% of scorecard. At least half of your practice time should be dedicated to short game.
This week is always exciting for golfers everywhere. It’s the catalyst for midwestern golfers as the weather becomes more suitable to play.
Hopefully you’re able to make some time to enjoy the golf this week and get out to practice and play as well!
Thank you for your support 🙏
